In the Ordinary Light

Letra

[Verse 1] You leave your coat across my chair And ask me how the garden grew I tell you what the roses did You tell me what you made it through [Pre-Chorus] The kettle clicks, the evening settles Your tired hand finds mine And all the hurried parts of me Fall quiet for a while [Chorus] I want to love somebody In the ordinary light To learn the little things you need And get them mostly right To stay when plans go sideways To laugh when dinner burns I want to love somebody And keep choosing you in turns [Verse 2] You fold the map beside the door Though we both know the way by heart We take the long road past the fields And name the clouds like works of art [Pre-Chorus] Your stories wander, mine do too We lose the thread and smile There’s nowhere else I need to be When you are here awhile [Chorus] I want to love somebody In the ordinary light To learn the little things you need And get them mostly right To stay when plans go sideways To laugh when dinner burns I want to love somebody And keep choosing you in turns [Bridge] Not every day will bloom for us Some mornings will be hard But I can make a little room For every changing part When words are scarce, I’ll sit with you When hope feels out of reach I’ll meet you where the day has left you And love you as you are [Final Chorus] I want to love somebody In the ordinary light To learn the little things you need And get them mostly right To stay when plans go sideways To laugh when dinner burns I want to love somebody And keep choosing you in turns [Outro] The kettle cools, the room grows still Your hand is warm in mine I want to love somebody And choose you, time by time
