This Is Halloween

מילים

[Intro] The porch clock coughs at half past nine, Your paper moon swings crooked on the line. [Verse 1] You drew a grin on every pumpkin face, Then hid the smallest one behind the vase. I heard your boots go scuffing down the hall, You said, “That’s nothing,” staring at the wall. [Pre-Chorus] The kettle clicks, the old floor bends, You count to three and round the corner— [Chorus] This is Halloween, come on in, There’s a paper bat caught in your hair again. This is Halloween, don’t be shy, The sheet on the chair just waved hello goodbye. Knock once, knock twice, let the good fright begin— This is Halloween, come on in! [Verse 2] A bowl of candy guards the front-room door, You take one piece, then somehow take four more. The neighbor’s black cat claims the welcome mat, You ask it if it’s seen your missing hat. [Bridge] Behind the curtain, two bright eyes, A giggle gives away the grand disguise. You pull the sheet; it’s Cousin June, With flour on her face and a wooden spoon. [Final Chorus] This is Halloween, come on in, There’s a paper bat caught in your hair again. This is Halloween, don’t be shy, The sheet on the chair just waved hello goodbye. Knock once, knock twice, let the good fright begin— This is Halloween, come on in! [Outro] The porch clock coughs; the moon swings wide. You leave one pumpkin lit outside.
