Call It Forever

Låttext

[Intro] Mum’s old CD skips on the kitchen shelf You laugh, say the chorus still knows itself [Verse 1] Train pulls out, rain dots the glass You tap that tune as the estates roll past Blue school tie tucked in your coat Big plans folded in a takeaway note You say, “When we’re up, we’ll remember this bit” I say, “Keep that promise; don’t loosen your grip” From the corner shop to the last bus home We made our own map from the roads we know [Pre-Chorus] One hand on the rail, one eye on the clock You hum that old refrain while the doors unlock [Chorus] We were young enough to call it forever Two paper cups and a coat for the weather If the years run fast, let them run together You still know the words, I still know the way We were young enough to call it forever [Verse 2] Now your key turns late in a flat up high Same chipped blue mug, same half-shut blinds You’ve got a new job, I’ve got plans in a drawer Still we trade old stories by the front-room door You kept that disc with the cracked plastic case I kept your note with the ink rubbed away No grand speech, just a grin and a nod Some things stay ours when the seasons move on [Pre-Chorus] One hand on the rail, one eye on the clock You hum that old refrain while the doors unlock [Chorus] We were young enough to call it forever Two paper cups and a coat for the weather If the years run fast, let them run together You still know the words, I still know the way We were young enough to call it forever [Bridge] Let the last train go, we can walk a while You tell that same joke; I still laugh at the punchline All those little years, all those miles apart Couldn’t move the tune from the back of my heart [Final Chorus] We were young enough to call it forever Two paper cups and a coat for the weather If the years run fast, let them run together You still know the words, I still know the way We were young enough to call it forever [Outro] Mum’s old CD skips on the kitchen shelf You laugh, say the chorus still knows itself
