Kulturkifft

Songtext

[Verse 1] At the kiosk, Herr Krüger Sells a paper crown Mara paints a tiny sun On the shutter coming down The tram sighs at the corner A pigeon guards the gate We trade our careful manners For a joke that's running late [Pre-Chorus] You say, “Don’t make a fuss” I say, “That’s the whole idea” [Chorus] Kulturkifft, pass the grin around A crooked little festival in an ordinary town Kulturkifft, let the good sense wait We’ll make a masterpiece from crumbs upon a plate [Verse 2] There’s a cello in the laundromat A sonnet on the bill Someone’s teaching pigeons waltz steps By the pharmacy window sill You bring your old red umbrella I bring a jar of plum The neighbors lean out laughing When the marching spoons have come [Pre-Chorus] You say, “They’ll think we’re strange” I say, “They’re already smiling” [Chorus] Kulturkifft, pass the grin around A crooked little festival in an ordinary town Kulturkifft, let the good sense wait We’ll make a masterpiece from crumbs upon a plate [Bridge] No grand hall, no velvet rope Just a bench and borrowed hope One good story, two odd shoes Nothing here we have to prove [Final Chorus] Kulturkifft, pass the grin around A crooked little festival in an ordinary town Kulturkifft, let the good sense wait We’ll make a masterpiece from crumbs upon a plate [Outro] Herr Krüger keeps the paper crown Mara paints the shutters brown
