Making Room for Me

Songtext

[Verse 1] Your blue mug waits beside the sink A little chipped along the side You leave your coat across my chair Like you already know you'll stay awhile [Pre-Chorus] We split the last orange on the stairs You give me half the sweeter piece And somehow in these small old things The whole day settles into peace [Chorus] Love is the note you leave for me Folded beneath the kitchen key Love is your hand finding mine While the kettle takes its time No grand promise, no grand scene Just you making room for me [Verse 2] Rain taps softly on the window Your socked feet warm against my knee You tell the story of your brother I know the part that makes you laugh before you reach it [Pre-Chorus] The clock keeps moving down the hall But here, the hours loosen their hold You say my name like it belongs In every little thing we know [Chorus] Love is the note you leave for me Folded beneath the kitchen key Love is your hand finding mine While the kettle takes its time No grand promise, no grand scene Just you making room for me [Bridge] When the rent goes up again When the winter coats come out When we lose the thread mid-sentence You still turn and hear me out [Final Chorus] Love is the note you leave for me Folded beneath the kitchen key Love is your hand finding mine While the kettle takes its time No grand promise, no grand scene Just you making room for me [Outro] Your blue mug waits beside the sink And I’m glad you’re here with me
