[Verse 1] Odessa went black when the evening rolled in No fan in the window, no air on my skin I loaned out my box fans to the folks next door Now both of ’em quit like they’d done it before [Pre-Chorus] So I crossed that yard with a bottle in hand The whole block sweating, no one had a plan [Chorus] Power’s out in Odessa, Florida tonight We’re passing one cold beer by the candlelight I brought you two fans, now they’re both dead too And your fish-day house has a smell coming through [Verse 2] You opened the door and I stepped inside That fish smell hit like a wave at high tide The kitchen was warm and the windows were shut I tried to say “cheers” with my nose all cut up [Pre-Chorus] You laughed and you poured, said, “They’ll fix it by dawn” I raised up my bottle and tried to play along [Chorus] Power’s out in Odessa, Florida tonight We’re passing one cold beer by the candlelight I brought you two fans, now they’re both dead too And your fish-day house has a smell coming through [Bridge] The ice in the cooler was giving its all A radio mumbled from down the hall We swapped old stories till the night rolled on Then a porch light blinked and the dark was gone [Guitar Solo] [Final Chorus] Power’s back in Odessa, the windows swing wide I hauled those dead fans back over the side You said, “Come again,” and I smiled at the door But I’m bringing my own beer—and I’m airing out yours [Outro] Odessa, Florida, the night ran long Two dead fans and a fish-day song
