One Night From Leaving

מילים

“Tuesday Night” [Verse 1] Six months in Nashville, rent coming due, Dad said my old job was open. Packed the car before my Tuesday set, Figured I’d leave in the morning. Played the first hour to a couple at the bar, Then a waitress called out from the back: “Play the one about your brother.” I didn’t know she’d heard that. [Chorus] I was one night from leaving, Keys right there beside my drink. She asked me for a song I wrote When I was ready to quit. Wasn’t much of a crowd, Wasn’t some big break. But somebody wanted to hear it— That was enough to stay. [Verse 2] She kept wiping tables while I sang, Stopped when I got to the last line. Said, “My brother lives out west. I haven’t called him in a while.” She went outside and made that call. I put my guitar in its case. Called Dad from the parking lot: “Can you give me another few days?” [Final Chorus] I was one night from leaving, Now I’m carrying my bags upstairs. Still got rent due Friday, Still picking up shifts anywhere. I’ll be back next Tuesday, Same time, same little stage. Somebody wanted to hear it— That was enough to stay.
