Sparse piano and barely audible strings. One mature warm mezzo-soprano appears very far away. Slow wordless vocalise with long pauses.] Mmm… Ooh… Ah… [The voice slowly moves closer but remains quiet, intimate and trusting.] Mmm… ah… Ooh… ah… Ah—ah… [REFRAIN 1 — NIGHT. One close voice, very softly.] Ночь над водою медленно плывёт, И тишина в пространстве замирает. [Hold the final vowel and return slowly to wordless singing.] А-а-ает… Mmm… Ooh… [0:45-1:30 — ANTICIPATION OF LIGHT] [A deep warm solo cello enters as a second wordless voice. Long legato phrases. The cello answers the female voice; no pulse, no ostinato, no acceleration.] [Female voice] Ah… ooh… [Cello answer] [Female voice] Mmm… ah… [Very soft violins appear far behind them. The space begins to open, but night still remains.] [REFRAIN 2 — FIRST SIGNS OF LIGHT. Lead voice close; one distant voice holds soft vowels.] Ещё вода не различает неба, Но свет уже касается вершин. Two distant female voices answer from across the water.] [Lead voice] Ah—ah… ooh… Mmm… ah… [Distant voices] Ooh… ah… Ah… ooh… [REFRAIN 3 — THE FIRST RAY. Clear warm lead voice.] По глади вод проходит первый луч, И даль впервые обретает имя. [Hold the final sound. Let it travel over Lake Baikal and return from the mountains as 7-8 progressively quieter echoes. Each echo is farther away.] И-и-имя… Ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… [Let the last echo disappear completely before continuing.] [2:20-3:05 — THE LAST SHADOW] [The violins slowly withdraw. The music becomes intimate again. One close female voice and a low cello remain. The light seems to weaken. Long pauses; no rhythm.] Mmm… Ooh… Ah… [The cello descends. The voice becomes fragile, but never breathy, childish or weak.] [REFRAIN 4 — THE LAST SHADOW. One restrained close voice.] Между горами задержалась тень, И первый луч как будто бы погас. [Silence. Hold the uncertainty. Do not begin the sunrise immediately.] Mmm… Ooh… [3:05-4:15 — BIRTH OF THE DAY] [The cello begins a long lyrical rise. The lead voice answers. Violins return gradually, one section at a time. Do not increase tempo. Power grows only through harmony, range, space and added voices.] Ah… ooh… Mmm… ah… Ah—eh—ah… [Two female voices become three, then four. Warm mezzo-sopranos and contraltos surround the lead voice. A soft rounded soprano may float above them without becoming piercing.] [REFRAIN 5 — SUNRISE. Broad and luminous; several warm voices, words clear.] Над кромкой гор рождается рассвет, И небо опускается в Байкал. [Transform “Байкал” into a long open vowel. The cello and violins continue the melodic line.] Байка-а-ал… Ah—ah… Ooh—ah… Mmm—ooh—ah… [Long expanding vocalise. Let the sunrise unfold fully. No rushing toward the final refrain.] [4:15-5:20 — LIGHT EVERYWHERE] [Full expressive cello, many sweeping violins and 4-6 layered warm female voices. The principal melody remains clear. Majestic and vast, never loud for its own sake.] Ah—ah—ah… Ooh—ah—eh—ah… Mmm—ooh—ah… Ah—ah—ah—ah… [REFRAIN 6 — THE NEW DAY. All voices warm, powerful and controlled; no shouting.] Теперь у света больше нет границ, И день звучит в воде, тайге и скалах. [Hold the final word and transform it into the greatest wordless culmination.] Ска-а-алах… Ah—ah—ah… Ooh—ah—eh—ah… Mmm—ooh—ah… [FINAL VOCALISE. Cello and many violins rise with the layered voices. No screaming, belting, shrillness, whistle register or piercing highs. All high notes stay warm, rounded and effortless.] Ah—ah—ah… Ooh—ah… Ah—eh—ah… Ooh… [Gradually remove the upper voices, then violins, then cello. One warm female voice remains and slowly moves far across the water.] Mmm… Ooh… Ah… [The final note returns from the mountains as 7-8 fading echoes, each quieter and farther away.] Ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… ah… [COMPLETE SILENCE.]
