Private Number

Letra

[Verse 1] Your name came through as a row of dots I let it ring while the kettle stopped One little buzz on the kitchen tile I picked it up after half a while [Pre-Chorus] You said, “It’s me,” like I’d know the sound Like all these months could turn around I held my breath, let the silence stay Then heard you smile from miles away [Chorus] Private number, calling after midnight Say it plain, don’t hide behind the line Private number, I know that voice by now If you still want me, tell me how [Verse 2] You asked if I kept that old blue coat The one you left in the back of my car I said it’s gone, but I still know The frayed little cuff and the coffee mark [Pre-Chorus] You said you’ve changed, I said, “Maybe so” But change takes more than a dial tone I’m not the girl who waits all night Still, I stayed on for one more line [Chorus] Private number, calling after midnight Say it plain, don’t hide behind the line Private number, I know that voice by now If you still want me, tell me how [Bridge] No more guessing from a blocked-out name No more leaving me to do the same If you mean it, let the daylight in Call me where your number shows again [Final Chorus] Private number, calling after midnight Say it plain, don’t hide behind the line Private number, I know that voice by now If you still want me, tell me how Private number, let the truth come through I won’t disappear to answer you [Outro] Let it ring, let it ring Till you call me like you mean it
