Ask Matt Smith

Şarkı Sözleri

[Verse 1] Matt Smith can throw a switch like nobody can Knows every rail and signal, every inch of the span When the freight rolls in at sunrise, he’s already on the mark Best switcher on the railroad, steady hands before it’s dark [Chorus] Ask Matt Smith what he saw out past the timberline He’ll tell you Bigfoot crossed the tracks at quarter after nine Could’ve been a bear, could’ve been a stump in the rain But Matt’s got a story, and he’s telling it again [Verse 2] Says a coyote flagged him down beside the water tower Says a lost old train came through with no headlamp, no hour He once claims the moon got caught up in a telegraph wire And a raccoon stole his lunch and drove a handcar through the briar [Chorus] Ask Matt Smith what he saw out past the timberline He’ll tell you Bigfoot crossed the tracks at quarter after nine Could’ve been a bear, could’ve been a stump in the rain But Matt’s got a story, and he’s telling it again [Bridge] Maybe every tale grew legs on the late shift after dark Maybe truth just took the long way through the rail-yard bar Still, when the points need lining and the schedule’s running tight Matt gets it done—and keeps us laughing through the night [Final Chorus] Ask Matt Smith what he saw out past the timberline He’ll tell you Bigfoot waved goodbye and borrowed his red sign Could’ve been a bear, could’ve been a stump in the rain Best switcher on the railroad, with a story for the train [Outro] Matt Smith’s got the switch set, and another tale to spin Was it true? Well, ask him—you’ll get the whole thing again
