How to use a voice changer in Fortnite

Install Voices AI Live

Download the free Windows app and accept the virtual microphone install. Restart if Windows asks you to.

Pick a voice

Preview the voices in the app - or clone your own from a 5-second recording - and select one.

Set the voice chat input

In Fortnite open Settings > Audio and set Voice Chat Input Device to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable).

Choose push-to-talk or open mic

Pick your Voice Chat Method, join a party or squad, and start talking.

How the Fortnite voice changer works

Fortnite voice chat takes audio from whichever input device you pick in its audio settings. Voices AI Live converts your real mic into the selected AI voice and outputs it on a virtual microphone, so selecting that device is all it takes. It works the same in Battle Royale, Zero Build, Creative, and party chat.

Voice conversion runs locally on your PC next to the game. A dedicated GPU keeps both smooth - check the system requirements on the main Voices AI Live page.

Playing on console?

Voices AI Live cannot change your voice in console party chat. If your squad talks over Discord, run Voices AI Live on a PC, join the Discord call there, and play on your console as usual.

Fortnite voice changer not working? Quick fixes

Fortnite doesn't list the Voices AI microphone

Start Voices AI Live first, then fully quit and reopen Fortnite so it rescans audio devices. Look for CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac. If it is still missing, restart your computer to finish the virtual microphone install.

My squad hears my normal voice

Make sure Voice Chat Input Device is set to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable), not your headset, and that Voices AI Live is running with a voice selected.

My squad cannot hear me at all

Check that voice chat is turned on in Fortnite and that Epic parental controls allow voice chat for your account.

The voice sounds robotic, choppy, or cuts out

Turn off extra noise suppression in the app you are talking in, close GPU-heavy programs you are not using, and check your computer meets the Voices AI Live system requirements.

Can I get banned in Fortnite for using a voice changer?

Voices AI Live does not read, modify, or inject into Fortnite - the game only sees a microphone, like a USB headset. Epic Games's rules on player behavior still apply, so don't use voices to harass or impersonate other players or staff.
