Keep That Afternoon

歌詞

[Verse 1] You left your sandals by the screen door Salt on your shoulder, keys on the floor We took the long way past the marina You named the boats like old friends we knew [Pre-Chorus] The ferry horn rolled over the bay You caught my hand like you meant to stay [Chorus] Meet me where the tide turns slow Where the porch fans spin and the sweet corn grows You laugh, I forget what I came to say Let the warm days carry us away If September comes and the mornings cool I’ll keep that afternoon with you [Verse 2] At the corner stand, we split a peach Juice on your thumb, just out of reach Your red bike rattled down the boardwalk I walked beside you, matching your pace [Pre-Chorus] The sky went pink above the pier You leaned in close; the whole world cleared [Chorus] Meet me where the tide turns slow Where the porch fans spin and the sweet corn grows You laugh, I forget what I came to say Let the warm days carry us away If September comes and the mornings cool I’ll keep that afternoon with you [Bridge] Maybe the season was only a page Still, I can find you there, any age One paper cup, two straws, one song A little while that keeps lasting long [Final Chorus] Meet me where the tide turns slow Where the porch fans spin and the sweet corn grows You laugh, I forget what I came to say Let the warm days carry us away When September comes and the mornings cool I’ll keep that afternoon with you I’ll keep that afternoon with you [Outro] You left your sandals by the screen door I still take the long way past the shore
