Lyrics
As the big day comes near,
I tremble in fear…
The King has come to the field—a month in advance,
But have I done my best—given Him more than just a glance?
For another year we sing and rejoice,
For the love we have in the King we anoint.
But how can I dance? How can I sing?
When I know of the times I hadn’t done the right thing…
So as the day nears, I hope and I pray,
For forgiveness and mercy He bestows our way:
For the things that I’ve done, against the Holy One.
For the thoughts that I’ve thought, the people I fought.
For the words that I spoke, the unnecessary joke.
For the times that I cried over His gifts in disguise.
For the questions I asked on His love being masked.
For the days I complained, for the ways I behaved.
For the people I hurt, not putting others first.
For the feelings of sadness that got in the way - of me serving Him correctly each and every day.
For the times that I pushed him further from me, when His will and my actions didn’t align perfectly.
The list doesn’t end here, it can keep going on,
But this special day goes way far beyond.
The actions, the words, the thoughts that I think, are limited here in this world that I see.
His forgiveness, His kindness, His infinite love—never ends (unlike the list above).
Now before this amazing day, I daven to erase the sins I placed in the way.
For Your will is mine and for You is my heart, in the purity of my soul - we were never apart.
So yes. On this special day I can dance, I can sing, I anoint YOU - Hashem as my King.
Thank You Hashem, for the ability You give,
To choose YOU to show me the best way to live.
