Cat Named Lucifer

Şarkı Sözleri

[VERSE 1] Well, I met her down on Sunday At a bar on Sullivan Street She had a smile like Sunday morning And the devil in her feet She said her name was Mary But her friends all called her Lou And by the time I learned her last name She’d learned everything I knew She had a cat named Lucifer And a tattoo of the moon And she told me not to worry When the lights went out at noon [CHORUS] I think my new chick is a witch Evil woman’s spells and shit If she’s the devil, she’s legit I think my new chick is a witch And I know I oughta quit But I just can’t get a grip If loving her’s a one-way trip Well, I guess I’m taking it [VERSE 2] Now, my brother said she’s trouble And my daddy said she’s worse My mama took one look at her And went digging through her purse She pulled out a little Bible And a silver crucifix Said, “Son, that girl ain’t natural” I said, “Mama, that’s the trick” Well, she keeps her candles burning And her curtains painted black And every time I try to leave her Something always brings me back Last Tuesday I was leaving Had my suitcase by the door Then she whispered something softly And I unpacked it on the floor [CHORUS] I think my new chick is a witch Evil woman’s spells and shit If she’s the devil, she’s legit I think my new chick is a witch She’s got me in a fix With them supernatural tricks And if the devil looks like this Well, I ain’t complaining one bit [VERSE 3] Now, I ain’t a superstitious man Never knocked on any wood Never worried ’bout a black cat Or believed in bad and good But last night I woke up sweating With a strange mark on my chest And a photograph of someone Who looked an awful lot like my ex She said, “Honey, don’t you worry That’s just something that I do” Then she kissed me on the forehead And the bedroom curtains flew Well, I thought about the preacher And I thought about the Lord Then she smiled across the pillow And I forgot what I was praying for [BRIDGE — Soft, almost spoken] Some men lose their money Some men lose their pride Some men lose their senses For a woman by their side Well, I lost my whole religion And my favorite pair of shoes And I think I lost my freedom But I sure ain’t got the blues [FINAL CHORUS] I think my new chick is a witch Evil woman’s spells and shit If she’s the devil, she’s legit I think my new chick is a witch And when they bury me at six With my Bible and my sticks Tell the preacher not to fix it ’Cause I died a happy man [OUTRO — Spoken over fingerpicked guitar] Well, I asked her if she loved me She said, “Darling, more than life” And that’s when I remembered… I never asked her if she was somebody else’s wife.
