The Goblins Own the Ballroom

歌词

[Intro] The chandeliers are dressed in gold, The doorman checks each name. A count arrives in velvet green, A duchess fans a flame. [Verse 1] Silk gloves, satin, polished shoes, A waltz of polished lies; Lord Ashcombe tips his silver cane, With amber slits for eyes. The hostess smiles, “How lovely, dear,” Her smile unhooks too wide; A little claw slips from her cuff— The whole room drops its pride. [Pre-Chorus] The masks come off, the teeth come out, The footmen bar the door; A hundred tiny horns appear Beneath the wigs and more! [Chorus] Oh, what a gala, what a fright! The goblins own the ballroom tonight! Raise up your glass, keep your elbows in— The count has a tail and the queen has a grin! Oh, what a party, what a sight! The goblins own the ballroom tonight! They bow, they bite, they spin you around— The grandest little monsters in town! [Verse 2] The baron shakes a jeweled hand, It’s green and twice as long; The viscountess requests one dance, Then leads the whole band wrong. They trade their pearls for pumpkin seeds, Their lace for ragged capes; The butler pulls a trumpet from A pocket full of grapes. [Pre-Chorus] The masks come off, the teeth come out, The floorboards start to spring; A goblin in a powdered wig Conducts the whole affair! [Bridge] At midnight, every mask is tossed, The moon peers through the glass; They toast the duke, who toasts them back— Then turns into a brass-bound bat! [Instrumental Drop] [Final Chorus] Oh, what a gala, what a fright! The goblins own the ballroom tonight! Raise up your glass, let the chandeliers swing— The queen has green fangs and the duke has a ring! Oh, what a party, what a sight! The goblins own the ballroom tonight! They bow, they bite, they spin you around— The grandest little monsters in town! [Outro] The dawn finds gloves and one lost shoe; The goblins? Not a one. The guest book says, “A lovely night— We’ll do it twice next month.”
