How to use a voice changer in Discord

Install Voices AI Live

Download the free app for Windows or Mac and accept the virtual microphone install. Restart if your computer asks you to.

Pick a voice

Preview the voices in the app - or clone your own from a 5-second recording - and select one.

Set the input device in Discord

Open User Settings > Voice & Video and set Input Device to CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac.

Turn off noise suppression

Under Voice Processing, set Noise Suppression to None so Discord does not filter the AI voice. Then join a voice channel and talk.

How a Discord voice changer works

Discord only hears the microphone you select in its settings. Voices AI Live sits in between: it listens to your real mic, converts your speech into the selected voice with a neural model, and sends the result to a virtual microphone. Pick that virtual mic in Discord and everyone hears the new voice - in voice channels, DMs, group calls, Stages, and while you Go Live.

Because the conversion is AI-based rather than an effect stack, your words, timing, and emotion stay yours while the voice itself is replaced. That is the difference between a robot or chipmunk filter and actually sounding like someone else.

Best Discord settings for an AI voice

Discord's voice processing is built for raw microphones, not audio that has already been processed. Noise suppression in particular can clip or muffle a converted voice, so set it to None. If your voice cuts in and out, turn off Automatic Gain Control and set Input Sensitivity manually instead of letting Discord decide.

Wear headphones so call audio does not leak into your real microphone, and use push-to-talk in busy channels so the AI is not converting keyboard noise.

Discord voice changer not working? Quick fixes

Discord doesn't list the Voices AI microphone

Start Voices AI Live first, then fully quit and reopen Discord so it rescans audio devices. Look for CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac. If it is still missing, restart your computer to finish the virtual microphone install.

Friends still hear my normal voice

Discord is still using your physical microphone. Recheck Input Device under Voice & Video, and make sure Voices AI Live is running with a voice selected.

The voice sounds robotic or cuts out

Set Noise Suppression to None, turn off Automatic Gain Control, and lower the Input Sensitivity threshold. Close GPU-heavy apps you are not using.

Other people hear an echo or their own voice

Use headphones. Speaker audio leaking into your real microphone gets converted and sent back to everyone.
