Rain Against the Stone

Songtekst

[Verse 1] I leave my coat to bead beside the door The gallery is nearly empty now A guard turns pages at the desk While rain keeps drawing lines across the glass [Verse 2] I stop before a portrait gone to brown Its painted hand rests lightly on a chair I think of all the rooms I left behind And how the quiet follows everywhere [Chorus] I walk these halls alone With rain against the stone Each frame holds someone else's day I let the hours drift away [Verse 3] The marble stairs are cool beneath my feet A school group fades beyond the western wing I read the names beneath the landscapes Then forget the little facts I came to learn [Chorus] I walk these halls alone With rain against the stone Each frame holds someone else's day I let the hours drift away [Bridge] At closing, all the colors dim The guard unlocks the heavy door Outside, the puddles keep the sky I stand a moment, then walk on [Final Chorus] I walk these halls alone Past rooms the rain has known Each frame holds someone else's day I carry mine out through the gray [Outro] The ticket softens in my hand The rain keeps falling as I go
