As Beautiful as Katie

Songtekst

[Intro — Spoken, soft acoustic guitar] Yeah… You know, I could sit here all night tryin’ to explain what makes this girl beautiful. But the truth is… I don’t think there’s a word for it. Katie, this one’s yours. [Verse 1 — Rhythmic Southern rap] First time I saw those eyes, I swear the whole world froze, Like somebody stopped the clock and said, “Boy, there she goes.” Got that sunshine in her hair, got that heaven in her smile, Got me losin’ every thought I had and starin’ for a while. She’s a blue-eyed, blonde-haired, beautiful distraction, Got my heart doin’ backflips, can’t control the reaction. And it ain’t just attraction, it’s the way she makes me feel, Like the world could fall apart, but what we’ve got is real. She could wear an old sweatshirt, hair a beautiful mess, No makeup, no effort, still I’m overly impressed. Got a thousand little freckles, every one a work of art, But it’s everything beneath ’em that went straight and stole my heart. See, I ain’t always easy, got a complicated mind, But she sees through all the bullshit to the man I’m hidin’ inside. And if I had a dollar every time she made me grin, I’d buy the whole damn world and give it right back to her again. [Chorus — Sung, warm country melody] Katie, you’re the sunrise on my darkest days, The calm inside the thunder when the sky turns gray. You’re the reason I believe there’s somethin’ good in this life, The kind of love that makes a wrong road feel right. And I don’t need a mansion, don’t need diamonds or gold, Just your hand in mine when we’re wrinkled and old. If forever ain’t enough, I’ll find a way to make it be, ‘Cause there ain’t a thing in this world as beautiful as Katie. [Verse 2 — Faster rap, dense internal rhymes] She’s a little bit of heaven with a hell of a temper, Got a smile I could stare at from January to December. She’s stubborn and she’s sweet, she’s a beautiful contradiction, And loving every part of her’s my favorite addiction. Got a million little habits that I swear drive me insane, But I’d miss every single one if she ever went away. She’ll be halfway out the door, then remember somethin’ else, And I’m laughing, shaking my head, thinking, “Lord, somebody help.” She’ll be feeding all the dogs, then she’s watering the grass, Got a dozen things to finish, and I’m watching minutes pass. But I’d wait another lifetime just to see her walk my way, ’Cause the best part of my life is every minute that she stays. And I know that I’m imperfect, got my demons and my doubts, Sometimes I get frustrated, sometimes words come tumblin’ out. But if loving her’s a lesson, then I’m learning every day, How to be a better man and love her in a better way. [Chorus — Sung, fuller instrumentation] Katie, you’re the sunrise on my darkest days, The calm inside the thunder when the sky turns gray. [Bridge — Stripped-down acoustic, emotional spoken rap] And maybe I don’t tell you enough… But I notice. I notice when you smile before you even say a word. I notice when you’re hurting, even when you say you’re good. I notice all the little things you probably think I miss, Like the way your eyes light up, or how you lean into a kiss. And I know sometimes I’m difficult, impatient, and distracted, Got a head full of a thousand thoughts and half of ‘em conflicting. But there’s one thing in this crazy world I never have to question… It’s you. And if I ever make you wonder how much you mean to me, I hope you hear this song and know exactly what I see. [Final Chorus — Big country melody, layered harmonies] Katie, you’re the sunrise on my darkest days, The answered prayer I never even knew to pray. And if the whole world changes, if the stars forget to shine, I’ll still be thanking God that I got to call you mine. I don’t need forever wrapped in diamonds or gold, Just a thousand Sunday mornings and your hand to hold. And when the years have taken everything they can from me, I’ll still see that same beautiful girl I call Katie. [Outro — Spoken, guitar fading] You know what’s funny? You probably look at these pictures and see a hundred little things you’d change. I look at ’em… And can’t find a single thing I would. I love you, Katie.
