Devil’s Red Slippers

Songtekst

[Verse 1] At the county line where the old mill leans A harvest moon hung low and mean I heard a heel tap on the courthouse floor Then a red shoe slid through the cellar door [Verse 2] She wore a black coat, laughed like a match Said, “Pick a tune, boy, mind your step” The fiddle cried and the floorboards shook I took one turn, then I was hooked [Chorus] Devil’s red slippers, spin me around Kick up the dust, shake the rafters down One little turn and the night runs wild Devil’s red slippers got the whole town riled [Verse 3] The preacher’s hat went sailing past The sheriff’s badge spun bright and fast Old Miss June clapped time with a cane While the scarecrow hopped in the windowpane [Chorus] Devil’s red slippers, spin me around Kick up the dust, shake the rafters down One little turn and the night runs wild Devil’s red slippers got the whole town riled [Bridge] At the first gray streak she let go my hand Left two red prints in the autumn sand Now every Halloween, when the cold winds dip I hear that fiddle and I watch my step [Instrumental: fiery fiddle solo trading with electric guitar] [Final Chorus] Devil’s red slippers, spin me around Kick up the dust, shake the rafters down One little turn and the night runs wild Devil’s red slippers got the whole town riled Devil’s red slippers, don’t let me quit That midnight dancer’s got a dangerous kick [Outro] Two red prints by the courthouse door And that fiddle laughing once more
