Casper in the Vent

Songtekst

[Verse 1] Halloween on Earlham Way, The Earlham boys are up tonight. Inside the haunted Earl Earlham house, Pink Panther pink from hall to light. Dommy Bandit checks the latch, Joshy keeps the sweets in sight. Cliffy hears a rattle upstairs, Jonny says, “It’s probably all right.” [Pre-Chorus] Then the heating vent goes clank, A chilly draft slips through the grate. Casper floats into the hall— Now every brave boy has to wait. [Chorus] Who’s at the door? Who’s on the stair? A little “trick or treat” is hanging in the air. Will they come in? Will they make it through? The Earlham boys don’t have a clue. Candy in a bowl, a ghost in the vent, One pink house and a night well spent. Who’s at the door? Don’t ask us why— No one knows till the porch lights fly! [Verse 2] Dommy Bandit takes one step, Joshy guards the chocolate stash. Cliffy peeks around the corner, Jonny hears a tiny tap-tap-tap. A paper bat swings overhead, Casper grins and drifts along. The doorbell rings; the hallway freezes— Was that trick-or-treaters, or a ghostly song? [Pre-Chorus] They count to three, then count to four, The front door gives a creaking sigh. Four small shadows wait outside— The boys all look at Casper. Why? [Chorus] Who’s at the door? Who’s on the stair? A little “trick or treat” is hanging in the air. Will they come in? Will they make it through? The Earlham boys don’t have a clue. Candy in a bowl, a ghost in the vent, One pink house and a night well spent. Who’s at the door? Don’t ask us why— No one knows till the porch lights fly! [Bridge] Casper lifts the latch with a floating hand, The boys stand still like a nervous band. “Trick or treat!” the small voices call— Then Casper hands out sweets to all. But when they turn to wave goodbye, The ghost has vanished from the sky. The vent goes clank. The hall goes dim. And someone whispers, “Was that him?” [Final Chorus] Who’s at the door? Who’s on the stair? The little trick-or-treaters made it through with care. They got their sweets, the boys survived, And Casper’s somewhere still inside. Candy in a bowl, a ghost in the vent, One pink house and a night well spent. Who’s at the door? The answer’s clear: More little footsteps—same time next year! [Outro] Earlham Way, the porch lights glow, The boys shut the door and whisper, “No.” From the heating vent, a soft “boo!”— Casper’s still there… and so are you.
