Calendar Mix-Up

Songtekst

[Intro] I woke up certain it was Saturday Turns out the calendar had other plans [Verse 1] Sun through the blinds, cereal in a bowl No backpack by the door, no rush in my soul Mom said, “You’re awfully calm for a Tuesday” I said, “Tuesday?”—then the whole room moved me Clock on the stove said eight forty-two Bus route rolled by like it knew what I’d do I checked my phone, saw the class group chat Twenty-seven messages: “Where you at?” [Chorus] I skipped a day of school, but I didn’t mean to Thought the week took a pause, had the wrong view Now I’m at the kitchen table, trying to explain How I missed roll call while I’m home in plain clothes again I skipped a day of school, what a way to find out One little mix-up turned the whole day inside out Tell the teacher I’m sorry, I’ll be there tomorrow If tomorrow’s not a holiday—please, no more sorrow [Verse 2] I wore my hoodie, made toast, took my time Then my friend sent a photo: the board had my name “Absent,” in red, like a headline in print I stared at the screen with a buttered-up grin Dad asked, “Did you check the date?” I said, “I did” He pointed at the month like, “Not the one you’re in, kid” Turns out I’d crossed off Monday twice on the chart My planning was neat; the math fell apart So I emailed the office, kept it short and sincere “Sorry I vanished. I’ll be back in gear.” Then I packed up my books for the next morning’s run And set three alarms—just to be sure of one [Chorus] I skipped a day of school, but I didn’t mean to Thought the week took a pause, had the wrong view Now I’m at the kitchen table, trying to explain How I missed roll call while I’m home in plain clothes again I skipped a day of school, what a way to find out One little mix-up turned the whole day inside out Tell the teacher I’m sorry, I’ll be there tomorrow If tomorrow’s not a holiday—please, no more sorrow [Outro] Calendar corrected, backpack by the door Three alarms set—and I checked the date once more
