Lost in the Pumpkin Patch

Songtekst

[Intro] Past the fence where the old vines crawl, Hear a little laugh by the garden wall. [Verse 1] You said, “Take the shortcut,” I said, “All right,” Now the moon’s a thin coin in a crooked sky. One boot in the mud, one hand on your sleeve, Pumpkin faces grin like they know we’ll leave. A paper mask flutters, a scarecrow leans, You point at the path where the tall grass swings. I count to four, then you count to ten, We turn in a circle and start again. [Pre-Chorus] Your orange ribbon caught on a thorn, My little flashlight’s losing its form. If you hear that rattle, don’t let go— I’m right beside you, moving slow. [Chorus] Lost in the pumpkin patch, side by side, Round and round where the vine rows hide. Hey, little lantern, show us the track, We’ll find our way when the moon comes back. Lost in the pumpkin patch, don’t be scared, You’ve got my hand and I’m right there. Hey, little lantern, flicker and flash— We’ll dance our way through the pumpkin patch. [Verse 2] A black cat watches from a wooden crate, The old gate squeaks like it’s running late. You spot your ribbon on a crooked stem, I pick it free; you tie it again. Then a tiny bat swoops low overhead, You laugh so loud that the scarecrow nods. We follow the fence till the rows unwind, Your muddy footprints crossing mine. [Pre-Chorus] Your orange ribbon bright in the air, That little flashlight’s almost there. [Bridge] Stop—hear the creek beyond the trees? There’s the fence, and the gate, and the autumn breeze. One last turn, then the road comes through; You found the way, but I found you. [Final Chorus] Lost in the pumpkin patch, side by side, Round and round where the vine rows hide. Hey, little lantern, show us the track, We found our way and we’re not looking back. Lost in the pumpkin patch, laugh out loud, Mud on our shoes and a moon for a crowd. Hey, little lantern, flicker and flash— We danced our way through the pumpkin patch. [Outro] Past the fence where the old vines crawl, We wave goodbye to the garden wall.
