Goblins Within

Songtekst

[Intro] Good evening, my lord, may I take your coat? The duchess is waiting beside the punch bowl. [Verse 1] The footmen have polished the silver to shine, The countess wears pearls in a perfect straight line. A duke taps his cane as the string quartet plays, And everyone’s smiling in respectable ways. [Pre-Chorus] Then a glove slips off—what a curious hand! A green little claw where a ring should have sat. The chandeliers tremble, the portraits all stare, And something is twitching beneath every chair. [Chorus] Raise up your glass, let the guests all grin, The grandest gala has goblins within! Silk on their shoulders, scales at the chin, The lord and the lady are goblins within! [Verse 2] The baroness bows with a forked little tongue, The viscount’s false mustache comes loose as he’s sung. The marquis has horns under powdered white hair, And green tails are swishing beneath the silk chairs. [Bridge] “Your titles?” “Inherited!” “Your manners?” “Quite fine!” “Your appetite?” “Anything served after nine!” The butler turns pale; the goblins cheer, They’ve been on the guest list for hundreds of years! [Chorus] Raise up your glass, let the guests all grin, The grandest gala has goblins within! Silk on their shoulders, scales at the chin, The lord and the lady are goblins within! [Outro] The dawn finds the ballroom swept clean as a pin, One invitation remains: “Do come again.”
