[ intro ] ‏There was only a tree, كانت هُناكَ شَجَرَةٌ فَقَطْ، ‏and there were no houses, nor a door. ولَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ بُيُوتٌ، وَلَا بَابٌ. [ Quattro] ‏He was terrified, like an animal's fear. كانَ فَزَعًا، كَفَزَعِ الحَيَوَانِ. ‏There was nothing لَمْ يَكُنْ هُناكَ ‏but cruelty, سِوَى القَسْوَةِ ‏terror, and fear. وَالفَزَعِ وَالخَوْفِ. ‏And he asked himself a question, وَسَأَلَ سُؤَالًا لِلنَّفْسِ: ‏Who is stronger, him or the lion? مَنِ الأَقْوَى، هُوَ أَمِ الأَسَدِ؟ ‏And who is this smooth snake, وَمَنْ هَذِهِ الأَفْعَى النَّاعِمَةُ، ‏moving slyly تَسِيرُ بِخُبْثٍ ‏sneaking in, to snatch the sleeper's soul وَتَتَسَلَّلُ، لِلنَّائِمِ تَخْطَفُ رُوحَهُ ‏from inside the dream. مِنْ دَاخِلِ الحُلْمِ. ‏And he stared at the bird, وَشَرَدَ لِلطَّيْرِ، ‏wondering why it didn't have wings like him وَلِمَاذَا لَيْسَ لَهُ جَنَاحَانِ مِثْلَهُ ‏to escape to the sky لِيَهْرُبَ بِهِمَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ ‏and flee from the fear on the ground. وَيَفِرَّ مِنَ الخَوْفِ بِالأَرْضِ. ‏He thought of the falcon, وَفَكَّرَ فِي الصَّقْرِ، ‏wondering why the falcon flew, لِمَاذَا طَارَ الصَّقْرُ، ‏and on a dark, pitch-black night, وَفِي لَيْلَةٍ حَالِكَةٍ كَاحِلَةٍ، ‏a light fell to the ground, سَقَطَ نُورٌ عَلَى الأَرْضِ، ‏a light like the light of the sky's lamp. نُورٌ كَنُورِ مِصْبَاحِ السَّمَاءِ. ‏But he felt it burning, لَكِنَّهُ شَعَرَ بِأَنَّهُ يَحْتَرِقُ، ‏and he did not know fire, وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يَعْرِفُ النَّارَ، ‏nor the meaning of burning. وَلَا مَعْنَى الحَرْقِ. ‏But he said after the "Ah," "Ah."
