[Spoken] They told me to imagine the worst thing. A baby born without legs. Without arms. Autistic. Or facing cancer. And the hot take came fast: “I would abort myself.” But listen to what that sentence hides. It assumes a life can be measured by the distance someone runs, by the hands they have, by how closely they resemble everybody else. A child does not arrive owing the world speed, strength, perfect health, or an easy story. A prosthetic is not a replacement for love— it is a way love learns a new shape. A wheelchair is not a prison— it can be the road to school, to friendship, to a life chosen on its own terms. Autism is not a moral failure. Cancer is not a verdict on someone’s worth. Disability is not the absence of a life. The real cruelty is deciding, before a person can speak, that their life would not be worth living. So if the question is whether I would erase a child for being different, my answer is no. I would build the ramp. Learn the language. Fight the disease. Make room at the table.
