I Hope You Know

Lyrics

Verse 1 I remember being little, You were larger than my world, The beautiful, cool teenager, And I was just your baby girl. You'd take the time to play with me, Make ordinary days feel gold, I wanted to be just like you, Before I even knew I'd grow. I watched the way you carried yourself, Thought you hung the moon somehow, And I'd give anything to go back And sit beside you now. Pre-Chorus Then hurt came between us, And we had a falling out, There were so many things I wish We could've talked about. Chorus I hope you know I love you, I hope you know it now, Beyond the hurt, beyond the distance, Beyond what time allowed. I would've called a thousand times If I'd known we'd run out of tomorrows. Now I'm carrying the love I had Inside this complicated sorrow. I hope wherever you are tonight, You finally know somehow— Big sister, I have always loved you. God, I hope you know it now. Verse 2 We had our falling out, And I let too many seasons pass, Thinking there would always be a day To mend what happened in the past. I thought there'd be another chance, Another phone call, another year, I never knew the last goodbye Had already disappeared. And that's the part that haunts me, All the time we threw away, All the moments I could've reached for you But waited one more day. Pre-Chorus Now grief doesn't come in straight lines, It twists regret into the pain. Some days I'm missing who you were, Some days I'm drowning in your name. Bridge But you're not hurting anymore, And I hold onto that when I break. No more suffering in your body, No more pain you have to take. And maybe Mom was there to meet you, Maybe Dad was waiting too, Three souls that left this world too early, Together somewhere new. I'd like to think you're laughing, Beautiful like you used to be, And when you talk about your little sister, You remember more than our history. Remember me when I was little, Running after you down the hall, Looking at my big sister Like she was the coolest girl of all. Breakdown I'm sorry for the silence. I'm sorry for the years. I'm sorry that I waited Until I couldn't have you here. If love could cross the distance Between this life and where you are, I'd send every piece of mine to you And let it find your heart. Final Chorus I hope you know I love you, More than I knew how to show. And losing you has taught me Just how deep that love can go. I'd trade every angry memory For one more ordinary tomorrow, One more laugh, one conversation, One less piece of this sorrow. But I know you're not in pain now, And somehow that gets me through. And I hope Mom and Dad are holding you The way I wish that I could too. So until the day I see you, If there's a heaven, save me room. I'll always be your little sister, Still looking up to you. Outro You were my beautiful big sister Before life pulled us apart. And nothing—not the years, not death— Could take you from my heart. I hope you know I love you. I hope you know it now.
