The forge began to cough and glow While sparks lit up the dusk below The scholars mapped the veins of stone And called the mountains theirs to own But Pooterboots just watched the tide With empty hands and foolish pride He said “The world keeps eating kings, Yet still the morning always sings.” So the bullets flew and the rockets screamed And every tyrant crowned their dream Steel birds darkened out the sun While children learned to load the gun Yet down where the reeds and driftwood swayed An old fire cracked where the outcasts stayed No walls to guard, no gold to claim Just muddy feet and forgotten names And when the servers blinked to black And all the empires failed to track The ones who laughed beside the shore Were breathing salt and nothing more For every throne becomes a grave Every master becomes a slave But rivers carve through stone with time And wash the soot from every crime So let the cabin splinter thin Let tomorrow flood us in For the sea forgets what men defend And the beach was there before the end. Then Krayleos raised his sharpened spear Said “Peace like that won’t keep us here The clans grow bold beyond the ridge They’ll cross by night across the bridge.” But LumpyPooterboots just scratched his beard And laughed at everything they feared “Why build a throne from ash and bone When all we really have’s this home?” The smiths kept hammering through the rain Turning mountain hearts to chains Crafting towers, walls, and flame Each generation did the same Yet out beyond the fortress light Where gulls still cried into the night Pooterboots beside the foam Would call the ruined shoreline home And every time the war drums rolled And every greedy chief took hold He’d grab a torch, rebuild the shack Then watch the tide erase the tracks For Krayleos believed in might In iron law and endless fight But Pooterboots beneath the stars Still measured wealth by healed up scars And somewhere in tomorrow’s wave Past every king and every grave The river bends, the current hums And laughter beats the marching drums.
