The Plan Went Missing

Lyrics

[Intro] Well, darling, grab your dancing shoes— Tonight the plan is bound to lose! [Verse 1] We set the rules in tidy rows, Then someone’s ex walks in and knows The waiter from a camping trip— Now everybody’s swapping tips. You came with me, I came with you, By half past ten the seating’s new; The coat-check girl has claimed the band, And Uncle Pete is holding hands! [Chorus] Swing it, swing it, what a fabulous night, One little plan and the whole room takes flight! A twist in the tale, a surprise at the door, We laugh, make a toast, then we dance some more. Swing it, swing it, let the good times ring— You never know who’ll be sharing your swing! [Verse 2] I thought I’d found my perfect match, We talked about our garden patch; Then found we both despise the same Lawn gnome with the ridiculous name. My date went off to find the loo, Came back with three new friends and stew; The host said, “Well, this wasn’t planned”— Then led a conga through the band! [Bridge] Keep your wits and keep it kind, Say what’s on your heart and mind; If the plot takes a left-hand turn, There’s a new dance step to learn! [Instrumental: jaunty saxophone and brass break] [Final Chorus] Swing it, swing it, what a fabulous night, We came with a plan and we’re leaving all right! A twist in the tale, a surprise at the door, We laugh, make a toast, then we dance some more. Swing it, swing it, let the good times ring— With a wink and a grin, let the whole room swing! [Outro] The plan went missing, the cake took a spill— We’re fabulous, darling, and having fun still!
