Till the Kitchen Cracked

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Your blue coat stayed behind my door Through two Decembers, maybe more We split the rent, we split the blame Then stopped saying each other’s name [Pre-Chorus] I found your note inside a book One crooked line, no second look [Chorus] We were brothers till the kitchen cracked Till one hard sentence took it back Now I pass your turn and keep my eyes ahead With all the words we never said [Verse 2] That chipped white mug is in the sink I still set out two cups, then think The landlord asks if you moved on I say you did, and leave it wrong [Pre-Chorus] Your old guitar leans by the wall I haven’t touched it since the fall [Chorus] We were brothers till the kitchen cracked Till one hard sentence took it back Now I pass your turn and keep my eyes ahead With all the words we never said [Bridge] I could have called on Tuesday night You could have picked up, we might’ve tried But pride sits heavy in an empty chair And neither of us put it there [Final Chorus] We were brothers till the kitchen cracked Till one hard sentence took it back I still pass your turn, though the road runs straight And wonder if I’m already late [Outro] Your blue coat stayed behind my door I don’t know what I’m keeping it for
