Booze runners

Lyrics

[Verse 1] We got forty cases loaded, And a hundred miles to go, There's a State boy sitting northbound, But he don't know what we know. There's a little road through Jackson, Where the county blacktop ends, So put your boot down on that pedal, boys, We're running booze again. [Chorus] Booze runners, keep that motor runnin', State line coming up ahead, Got the banjo picking, back wheels kicking, And a blue light seeing red. Keep her moving, don't start slowing, There's a payday down the road, We're the midnight whiskey runners, boys, And we're hauling one more load. [Verse 2] Well the sheriff heard about us, From a fellow down in town, Said a black Ford full of liquor, Would be heading southward bound. So he parked beside the highway, With his radar pointing west, But Billy took the logging road, And left him with the rest. [Fast Banjo / Bass Instrumental] [Verse 3] Now the bottles started rattling, When we hit old Miller's track, Billy yelled, “Don't break the whiskey!” I yelled, “WELL GET 'EM OFF OUR BACK!” There were three patrol cars gaining, Throwing gravel in the air, But when we jumped that county bridge, They weren't going anywhere. [Bridge] Hammer down, Billy! There's the state line sign! Keep that old Ford moving, And we'll make it there in time! That V8's smoking badly, And the temperature's running high, But there's fifty bucks a case, boys— So make this old truck fly! [Final Chorus] Booze runners, keep that motor runnin', State line disappearing fast, Got the banjo picking, back wheels kicking, And the State boys fading back. Keep her moving, morning's coming, There's a barroom down the road, We're the midnight whiskey runners, boys, And we're delivering the load! [Fast Banjo Finish]
