We Toast Again

Lyrics

[Intro] Yeah, uh Long way from the back room [Chorus] I made a little room, now the whole crew fits Still got dirt on the soles, still got plans that stick If you talk that shit, better stand on it I was down bad, now the rent paid quick I don't chase no love, I let that shit come Keep my circle real small, that's a cold-ass sum When the doors swing wide, let the whole team in We ate off crumbs, now we toast again [Verse 1] Mama said, “Be sharp,” so I watched every face Had a phone with a crack and a bus pass saved Now the same old block got my name on the gate But I still take the stairs, I don't trust that lift I put hours in quiet, let the numbers get loud Had a friend turn strange when the checks came around Fuck a fake-ass grin, I can read that shit now If it's love, show love; don't just say it out loud New coat, same habits, I still check the lock I remember cold dinners and a dead wall clock Now the fridge full, still make sure folks got a plate I ain't here for the flex, I'm just changing the fate [Chorus] I made a little room, now the whole crew fits Still got dirt on the soles, still got plans that stick If you talk that shit, better stand on it I was down bad, now the rent paid quick I don't chase no love, I let that shit come Keep my circle real small, that's a cold-ass sum When the doors swing wide, let the whole team in We ate off crumbs, now we toast again [Verse 2] Late night, pen moving, got a list in the notes Every promise I made, I remember them both If the deal smells funny, I don't sign, I don't fold I can sleep with my choice, that's worth more than gold Big step, calm face, but the heart still beats Put my people in the room, put the keys on the seat You can keep that bullshit, I got work to complete Turn a hard little year to a life with some peace They were quick with the jokes when the cupboard was bare Now they ask for a favor like we always were there I don't carry that hate, but I don't play dumb You can't knock on my door when the good days come [Bridge] No handout, no shortcut, no borrowed name Same folks, same code, even when things change If I said that I'm here, then I'm there, that's facts We got up from the floor, ain't going back [Chorus] I made a little room, now the whole crew fits Still got dirt on the soles, still got plans that stick If you talk that shit, better stand on it I was down bad, now the rent paid quick I don't chase no love, I let that shit come Keep my circle real small, that's a cold-ass sum When the doors swing wide, let the whole team in We ate off crumbs, now we toast again [Outro] Long way from the back room Still got room for the whole crew Yeah, we toast again
