Keeps Your Place

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You left your blue coat on the kitchen chair I pass it every morning like you’re still in there Your coffee cup is chipped along the side I keep the handle turned the way you liked I took the long way home past Linden Street The corner store had your old favorite tea I almost called to ask if you were well Then let the phone go quiet in my hand [Pre-Chorus] I tell my friends I’m doing fine I make it sound like borrowed time But every little thing I see Still has your name attached to me [Chorus] I’m learning how to let the room stay still How to take the day without your call You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place I’m learning how to let the good days in Even when the old ones come around You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place [Verse 2] Your sister sent a picture from the lake You’re laughing with your hair caught in the breeze I saved it, then I put it back away Some kinds of missing don’t get easier I found the note you wrote beside the sink “Buy oranges, and don’t forget to eat” I laughed out loud before I felt the ache Like some part of you still knows my days [Pre-Chorus] I tell my friends I’m doing fine I make it sound like borrowed time But every little thing I see Still has your name attached to me [Chorus] I’m learning how to let the room stay still How to take the day without your call You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place I’m learning how to let the good days in Even when the old ones come around You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place [Bridge] Maybe one day I’ll move that coat Maybe I’ll drink from that old cup I won’t be leaving you behind I’ll just be learning how to carry love [Final Chorus] I’m learning how to let the room stay still How to take the day without your call You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place I’m learning how to let the good days in Even when the old ones come around You’re gone, but I can’t make my heart stand down It keeps your place, it keeps your place [Outro] Your blue coat’s still on the chair I think I’m ready to move it
