Where Blackthorn Blooms

Lyrics

[Verse 1 — Woman] You left your silver key beside the well, And frost had sealed the gate by morning’s bell. I kept the little room the way you knew, With one blue ribbon folded next to you. [Verse 2 — Man] The old clock stopped the night the north wind came, The portraits turned their faces from the flame. I crossed the fields where winter bent the rye, Still carrying the promise I could not deny. [Pre-Chorus — Woman] If I could open one more door, Would you be waiting as before? [Chorus — Duet] Meet me where the blackthorn flowers, Where the lost years lose their power. Though the road has taken you from view, Every winter leads me back to you. Hold me till the morning finds us, Though the world divide and blind us. If love must leave before the spring, Let one last tender promise ring. [Verse 3 — Man] I heard your song beneath the chapel stone, A thread of warmth through kingdoms carved in bone. No crown, no spell could turn the years around; I followed only the familiar sound. [Verse 4 — Woman] Your hand was cold; the dawn was drawing near. I knew the shape of every vanished year. We spoke no vow the living could retain, Just touched, and watched the garden bloom again. [Bridge — Duet] [Woman] The roses climbed the broken stair. [Man] The bells rang out across the square. [Woman] One breath of summer crossed the snow. [Man] One last small light began to grow. [Duet] And though the gate swung closed at day, The flowers kept what words could not say. [Final Chorus — Duet] Meet me where the blackthorn flowers, Where the lost years lose their power. Though the road has taken you from view, Every winter leads me back to you. Hold me till the morning finds us, Though the world divide and blind us. If love must leave before the spring, Let one last tender promise ring. [Outro — Woman, then Man] [Woman] The key is waiting by the well. [Man] I know the way; I know it well. [Duet] Where blackthorn blooms and cold winds cease, We meet again in borrowed peace. [Wordless choir]
