Private Number

Lyrics

[Intro] (Atmospheric keys fading in, soft vinyl crackle) Late night, screen's glowing red... Yeah. [Verse 1] Midnight on the clock and my phone starts to ring No name on the screen, just a shadow it brings I usually ignore it, let it go to the tone But something in the static makes me feel less alone Is it you playing games, trying to get in my head? Or a memory calling from the edge of my bed? [Pre-Chorus] My thumb is hovering over the green The biggest mystery I've ever seen You hide behind the dark like a ghost in the air But I can feel your breath, yeah, I know that you're there [Chorus] Private number, calling me again Are you a stranger, or is this the end? No ID, just a whisper on the line Taking up my space, stealing all my time Private number, tell me who you are A voice in the dark, shining like a star Private number... Don't hang up on me. [Verse 2] I press accept, but the line stays so quiet Just the sound of your breathing, a beautiful riot I say "hello" twice, but you never reply Just a heavy sigh under a violet sky If you wanted to talk, you would say what you mean Instead of haunting me through a digital screen [Chorus] Private number, calling me again Are you a stranger, or is this the end? No ID, just a whisper on the line Taking up my space, stealing all my time Private number, tell me who you are A voice in the dark, shining like a star Private number... Don't hang up on me. [Outro] Just a click... Then you're gone. Back to the static. Private number. (Beat fades out slowly with ambient keys)
