Safe in the Soft Places

Lyrics

[Intro] Hey, little heart, you can rest now You don't have to keep the whole night watch [Verse 1] I know some doors slammed hard when you were small Some words left shadows climbing up the wall You learned to read a room before you spoke And hide your wishes underneath your coat But none of that was yours to carry through You were a kid; the grown-ups should've cared for you So let your shoulders loosen, let your hands uncurl There’s still a little wonder living in this world [Chorus] Close your eyes, let the small you run Chase silver clouds beneath a paper sun I’m right here, keeping watch while you dream Safe in the soft places your heart keeps unseen Close your eyes, let the wildflowers grow Make a bright new place where the kind winds blow You can be anything your heart can see Sleep, little dreamer; you’re safe with me [Verse 2] You can build a castle out of blankets and light Give the moon a garden and the stars a kite Let a blue whale carry you over the sea To a shore where every door opens kindly No need to earn the calm that comes tonight No test to pass, no need to get it right The brave little child who made it this far Can lay down the armor and count every star [Chorus] Close your eyes, let the small you run Chase silver clouds beneath a paper sun I’m right here, keeping watch while you dream Safe in the soft places your heart keeps unseen Close your eyes, let the wildflowers grow Make a bright new place where the kind winds blow You can be anything your heart can see Sleep, little dreamer; you’re safe with me [Bridge] If a memory knocks, it can wait outside Tonight there's a blanket and room by my side You don't have to explain, you don't have to be tough Being here, breathing slow, is more than enough And when morning comes with its ordinary light You can keep one small wonder tucked out of sight A little red kite, a door painted green A world that is gentle because you dreamed [Verse 3] Let your heart draw the colors it never got to show A bright orange river where the warm breezes blow A fox with a lantern, a treehouse in space A whole sky of kindness, a soft landing place I’ll stay near the doorway; the night can be wide You can wander the dreamlands with me by your side No rush to come back, no need to pretend There’s room for the child in you, now and again [Final Chorus] Close your eyes, let the small you run Chase silver clouds beneath a paper sun I’m right here, keeping watch while you dream Safe in the soft places your heart keeps unseen Close your eyes, let the wildflowers grow Make a bright new place where the kind winds blow You can be anything your heart can see Sleep, little dreamer; you’re safe with me [Outro] Rest now, little heart, the night can be kind There’s room for your wonder, and time on your side Dream what you love, let the bright colors bloom I’m here, keeping watch, while you make your room
