The Porch Bulb Clicks

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The porch bulb flickers over Mrs. Vale’s gate A paper moon is snagged on the telephone wire Your brother’s carved a grin that’s missing half its teeth And something in the hedge just answered from the dark [Pre-Chorus] You say it’s just the wind Then why’d it say your name? [Chorus] Run, run, the house is waking Boot heels pounding, black cats shaking Knock once, knock twice, don’t turn around The whole dead neighborhood is coming out Hey! Hey! The night’s alive Hey! Hey! We’re still inside [Verse 2] A plastic skeleton is swinging from the eaves The old clock in the hall has stopped at half past ten You drop your candy sack; it rolls across the steps A dozen little hands reach up to pull it in [Pre-Chorus] You say it’s just a prank Then who’s behind the glass? [Chorus] Run, run, the house is waking Boot heels pounding, black cats shaking Knock once, knock twice, don’t turn around The whole dead neighborhood is coming out Hey! Hey! The night’s alive Hey! Hey! We’re still inside [Bridge] Count the windows, count to four Hear the latch lift on the door Hold your breath and bite your tongue The dead know every song we’ve sung [Final Chorus] Run, run, the house is waking Boot heels pounding, black cats shaking Knock once, knock twice, don’t turn around The whole dead neighborhood is coming out Hey! Hey! The night’s alive Hey! Hey! We’re still inside Hey! Hey! The night’s alive Hey! Hey! We’re still inside [Outro] The porch bulb clicks The porch bulb clicks
