When Nobody’s Looking

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You leave your jacket on the chair Say you’ve got to be somewhere Then the hallway door clicks shut And you’re back before the kettle’s up Your phone turns over when I pass You say it’s nothing, make me laugh But there’s a little ritual you keep Like counting every secret sheep [Pre-Chorus] You can tell the room what you like You can wear that Sunday face But when the curtains meet at night You don’t have to play it safe [Chorus] Tell me what you do when nobody’s looking What you keep tucked underneath the good impression I won’t make a story, I won’t ask for a reason Just let me know the private side you save for the evening When the door is locked and the whole world’s gone What do you do when nobody’s looking? [Verse 2] You line your shoes up by the bed Rehearse the things you wish you’d said Keep old receipts inside a book And check the lock twice, just to look You hum one note before you sleep A tiny promise you can keep I’ve got my own small ceremonies So come on, trade your mysteries [Pre-Chorus] You can tell the room what you like You can wear that Sunday face But when the curtains meet at night You don’t have to play it safe [Chorus] Tell me what you do when nobody’s looking What you keep tucked underneath the good impression I won’t make a story, I won’t ask for a reason Just let me know the private side you save for the evening When the door is locked and the whole world’s gone What do you do when nobody’s looking? [Bridge] I talk to the mirror while I pin my hair Eat the last peach standing by the sink Make a list of all the ways I’m getting there Then cross out half before I even think No perfect answer, no confession due I only want the truth that sounds like you [Final Chorus] Tell me what you do when nobody’s looking What you keep tucked underneath the good impression I won’t make a story, I won’t ask for a reason Just let me know the private side you save for the evening When the door is locked and the whole world’s gone What do you do when nobody’s looking? [Outro] Nobody’s looking You can tell me what you do Nobody’s looking I’ll tell you mine, too
