My Heart Stayed Home

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I packed my dreams in an old suitcase, A little hope and a picture from home. I took that road to find a better life, But I’ve never felt so far alone. I left my family there behind me, Their voices still ride these miles. When someone asks me how I’m doing, I put on my best smile. [Chorus] I may be miles away, but my heart stayed home, Down the road where my people are waiting. I keep my head high and keep moving on, Though some nights the homesick hurts like crazy. I didn’t come here to forget where I’m from, Or trade the love that made me strong. I’m chasing a life I can bring back home, And carrying them with me all along. [Verse 2] There’s a folded note beside my bed, Mom’s handwriting soft and plain. I read it when the room gets quiet, And hear her calling me by name. Some days the work runs long and hard, Some days the pay goes thin. Still I save a little every week, For the day I’m home again. [Bridge] One day I’ll pull in after sunrise, Hear the screen door swing wide. Till then I’ll hold their love close, With every mile I ride. [Final Chorus] I may be miles away, but my heart stayed home, Down the road where my people are waiting. I keep my head high and keep moving on, Even when the homesick hurts like crazy. I didn’t come here to forget where I’m from, Or trade the love that made me strong. I’m chasing a life I can bring back home, And carrying them with me all along. [Outro] A little hope and a picture from home, Till the day I’m not miles away.
