Take the Long Way Home

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Amanda keeps a list on the fridge with a magnet Chuck’s little leash is looped around her hand She says the doctor’s got a pill for every feeling Then walks the block like she’s got other plans [Pre-Chorus] She turns away the juice, says, “No thanks, not today” Black-eyed peas get pushed to the edge of the plate [Chorus] Amanda, take the long way home With Chuck trotting like he owns the road You dress up as Clayton, chin held high And I’m still trying to keep up by your side Amanda, laugh at what you can’t control You and that Yorkie make a little world of your own [Verse 2] Chuck stops to study every leaf and mailbox She gives him time; she never pulls him through Then comes home and puts on Clayton’s jacket Like there’s a bigger life she’s stepping into [Pre-Chorus] She trusts her gut, not every label on a bottle She’ll skip the juice and leave the peas for tomorrow [Chorus] Amanda, take the long way home With Chuck trotting like he owns the road You dress up as Clayton, chin held high And I’m still trying to keep up by your side Amanda, laugh at what you can’t control You and that Yorkie make a little world of your own [Bridge] Maybe I don’t get the rules you’re living by But I know that little dog looks up at you And when you walk out dressed like Clayton You look like someone nobody gets to choose for you [Final Chorus] Amanda, take the long way home With Chuck trotting like he owns the road You dress up as Clayton, chin held high And I’m still trying to keep up by your side Amanda, laugh at what you can’t control You and that Yorkie make a little world of your own [Outro] One more block, one more story to tell Chuck leads the way, and you wear Clayton well
