The Strong Ones Stay Alive

Lyrics

Your at work when the power took a dive Computers went black, the boss said “have a safe drive" Hit the road and it’s bumper-to-bumper hell Streetlights are out and but drivers can’t tell Gas station wants cash but the bank’s closed tight Phones are all dead, so your waving goodnight Two days of food and a freezer full of ice You can already smell the regret and the fear in your eyes Chorus I’ve been plannin’ while y’all were binge-watchin’ Got a generator and gas that I’m not rationin’ Freeze-dried food, MREs that taste like cardboard sin Water filters, solar panels, and a grin that won’t give in Flashlights, candles, radios that still talk First-aid kit and guns in case the neighbors start to squawk When the lights go out and the shelves are bare I’m the only one out here who actually prepared Verse 2 After a few days the good folks start to roam Join up in packs breakin into your neighbors home Police took the week off, stores got cleaned out Now your buddy’s at the door with a crowbar and a pout I set up a perimeter, got the two-way on Axe by the firewood, knives lookin’ sharp and drawn If i have to choose between a Stranger or my people? Yeah, that math is easy You can have the street, I’ll keep the freeze-dried cheesy Chorus I’ve been plannin’ while y’all were binge-watchin’ Got a generator and gas that I’m not rationin’ Freeze-dried food, MREs that taste like cardboard sin Water filters, solar panels, and a grin that won’t give in Flashlights, candles, radios that still talk First-aid kit and guns in case the neighbors start to squawk When the lights go out and the shelves are bare I’m the only one out here who actually prepared Bridge They’ll be tradin’ gold for a can of beans Askin’ if I got extra batteries, pretty please I’ll say “Sorry, friend, the strong ones stay alive And my dog’s already claimed the last bag of fries” New rules, new world, and the weak are learnin’ fast While I’m on the porch with a flashlight and a laugh Outro Yeah, I’ve been plannin’ This is only week one, and the fun’s just begun My next song will tell you what it’s like after one month When the hungry keep knockin’ and the strong ain’t run When the lights go out… (When the lights go out)
