The Blue Cup

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You left the blue cup by the sink A little ring where the water dried I stood there longer than I meant to With all the words I kept inside [Pre-Chorus] I thought if I could name the hurt It would loosen its hold on me But morning came through the kitchen blinds And showed what I could choose to keep [Chorus] I don't need a miracle tonight Just one honest breath, one open door I can set the old weight down awhile I can be more than what I was before If healing is a road I take in pieces I'll take the next one, nothing more [Verse 2] Your note is folded in the drawer Beside the keys I never use I read it once, then put it back And let the quiet be the truth [Pre-Chorus] I thought that leaving meant forgetting Now I know the heart can mend Some things stay, but lose their sharpness Some goodbyes can have an end [Chorus] I don't need a miracle tonight Just one honest breath, one open door I can set the old weight down awhile I can be more than what I was before If healing is a road I take in pieces I'll take the next one, nothing more [Bridge] No grand answer, no clean slate Just the kettle starting up at dawn A small decision, made again To meet the day and carry on [Final Chorus] I don't need a miracle tonight Just one honest breath, one open door I can set the old weight down awhile I can be more than what I was before If healing is a road I take in pieces I'll take the next one, nothing more [Outro] The blue cup dries beside the sink And morning finds me here
