Come Close, Then Disappear

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Your blue cup waits beside the sink A crescent lipstick on its rim I keep the hall light burning low As if you might come wandering in [Pre-Chorus] You left your coat against the chair It holds the shape of how you stood I say your name into the room And hear it turn to something good [Chorus] Come close, then disappear I reach for you, you’re never here My heart keeps missing every cue Still making room, still wanting you Come close, then slip away I save the words I couldn’t say If love is only passing through Why does it leave me wanting you? [Verse 2] The lift groans softly at the floor A neighbor’s radio fades thin I trace the crack across the glass And wonder where we might begin [Pre-Chorus] Your shadow crosses in my sleep A silver thread I can’t undo I wake with both my hands held out As though the dark could answer you [Chorus] Come close, then disappear I reach for you, you’re never here My heart keeps missing every cue Still making room, still wanting you Come close, then slip away I save the words I couldn’t say If love is only passing through Why does it leave me wanting you? [Bridge] If you return, don’t bring the past Just bring the truth and let it sting I’d rather feel the honest wound Than wear this almost like a ring [Final Chorus] Come close, then disappear I reach for you, you’re never here My heart keeps turning back to you Still making room, still wanting you Come close, then slip away I’ll leave the door unlatched today If love is only passing through Why does it leave me wanting you? [Outro] Your blue cup waits beside the sink I leave it there; I let it be
