6:04 at the Baseline

Lyrics

[Verse 1] It's 6:04, the gym doors just unlocked I'm sitting on the baseline where we used to talk Got a pair of dice in my jacket pocket Rolled them twice before I even parked the car Came up snake eyes, same as every time Guess the odds don't care how hard you try I'm staring at my phone, your name still on the screen Recording something I will never send [Chorus] So I'll lace up, shoot until the sun comes through the glass Watch the ball spin off my hands and find the net at last Every miss I ever made is just a shot I get to take again So I'll keep on shooting, keep on shooting, till the morning finds me here [Verse 2] The janitor is sweeping out the hall He nods at me like he's seen it all I say, "Morning," like there's nothing wrong He says, "Kid, you got the whole court to yourself" So I take it, every corner, every lane Twenty-two feet and a chance to start again I don't need an answer, don't need a sign Just the sound of the ball and the morning light [Chorus] So I'll lace up, shoot until the sun comes through the glass Watch the ball spin off my hands and find the net at last Every miss I ever made is just a shot I get to take again So I'll keep on shooting, keep on shooting, till the morning finds me here [Bridge] I deleted the voicemail, held the dice up to the sky Said, "Whatever you decide to land on, I'll be alright" There's a difference between giving up and letting go And I'm learning which one this is as the sun climbs slow [Chorus] So I'll lace up, shoot until the sun comes through the glass Watch the ball spin off my hands and find the net at last Every miss I ever made is just a shot I get to take again So I'll keep on shooting, keep on shooting, till the morning finds me here [Outro] Dice in my pocket, one more roll to make The gym doors open, it's a brand new day I'm gonna be okay I'm gonna be okay
