The Snow Remembers

Lyrics

[Intro] Mmm, mmm—snow over the garden wall Mmm, mmm—hush before the morning calls [Verse 1: Female] You left a paper crown beside the stair A silver thread still caught upon the chair I kept the little key beneath my sleeve For one more door I wasn’t meant to leave [Verse 2: Male] I crossed the frozen orchard after dark With your small lantern guarding every spark The old clock slept beneath its coat of snow Yet somewhere in the house, the rooms still know [Pre-Chorus: Female and Male] If you can hear me through the winter air I’ll meet you where the white bells bloom [Chorus: Duet] Come, take my hand through the quiet trees Past the blue hill and the sleeping stream Though dawn may find us miles apart You keep the map inside my heart Mmm, mmm—the snow remembers Mmm, mmm—what we were [Verse 3: Female] The fox wore frost like lace along its back It led us down a moonlit, winding track You smiled the way you did before goodbye And I forgot to ask the reason why [Bridge: Male, then Female] I have carried your name like a candle Through the rooms where the seasons turned [Female] I have saved you a place by the window Where the first winter roses burned [Final Chorus: Duet] Come, take my hand through the quiet trees Past the blue hill and the sleeping stream Though dawn may find us miles apart You keep the map inside my heart Come, if only in a dream Where the snow falls soft and clean Mmm, mmm—the snow remembers Mmm, mmm—we are near [Outro: Wordless Choir and Duet] Mmm, mmm—snow over the garden wall Mmm, mmm—still I hear you call
