More Than Number 64

Lyrics

[Verse 1] He wore that black and gold with pride, Number sixty-four on Friday nights. A Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks boy, With a heart bigger than the game he played. He worked so hard, he gave his all, But who he was stood ten feet tall. And long after the lights go down, His kind of love will still be found. [Chorus] He was more than sixty-four, More than the jersey that he wore. He was laughter, he was love, The kind of kid you can’t say enough of. A little bit stubborn, a whole lot of heart, Making people smile was just his art. Eighteen years, but so much more, He was our Carter, more than sixty-four. [Verse 2] North of Dawson, at Lac Lake, He’d watch the world and let time wait. A fishing pole, a peaceful view, The simple things were what he knew. The king of jokes that made you groan, Always making laughter feel like home. And if there wasn’t protein on his plate, You know he’d have something smart to say. [Bridge] He taught his mama patience, Though he tested it some days. But he’d be the first to hold you close, When words got in the way. He saw the ones who needed help, And never passed them by. Some hearts leave a mark so deep, That time can’t say goodbye. [Final Chorus] He was more than sixty-four, More than the jersey that he wore. He was a brother, son, and friend, A love that doesn’t have an end. And when those Friday lights shine bright, Or the sun sets on the lake at night, We’ll remember what he stood for, Our sweet Carter, forever sixty-four. [Outro] So let the Blackjacks play on, Let the lake reflect the sky. Some boys leave more than memories, They leave love that never dies. Forever a Blackjack. Forever #64. Forever Carter.
