The Porch Light’s On

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Troy came stumbling through the screen door Talking tough and missing the floor Nike took his keys and said, “Sit down You’ve had enough of this small-town crown” [Pre-Chorus] She’s patient as Sunday, loving as spring Still wipes the mess up and hears him sing [Chorus] Amanda says, “Troy, you drunk fool, that’s enough You’re all sharp edges when you’ve had too much” Nike stays kind through the worst of his act While Jeremy’s there trying to talk him back We laugh and wonder, with a wink and a grin If Troy’s got a secret he won’t let us in [Verse 2] Jeremy brought water, found Troy’s old coat Tried to steer him home while he missed every note Troy said, “I’m fine,” then hugged the mailbox tight Nike just sighed, “We’re getting you inside” [Pre-Chorus] She’s patient as Sunday, loving as spring Still knows the good heart beneath everything [Chorus] Amanda says, “Troy, you drunk fool, that’s enough You’re all sharp edges when you’ve had too much” Nike stays kind through the worst of his act While Jeremy’s there trying to talk him back We laugh and wonder, with a wink and a grin If Troy’s got a secret he won’t let us in [Bridge] No need to make a courtroom out of a joke Just let him be himself when the morning breaks But tonight Jeremy’s got him by the arm And Nike’s got his boots and his keys out of harm’s way [Final Chorus] Amanda says, “Troy, you drunk fool, that’s enough You’re all sharp edges when you’ve had too much” Nike stays kind, and Jeremy stays near They love the man under all that beer We laugh and wonder, then raise a glass of tea Here’s to Troy finding his way home safely [Outro] Nike’s still patient, the porch light’s on Jeremy walks him in, and the night rolls on
