Stepping for mom

Lyrics

1311 Morgan, Mama in that bay window frame Watching all eight of us running wild, calling each one by name Up and down Plymouth, sunshine in the air But the brightest thing on that block was Mama sitting right there Sugar Pops and Corn Flakes, posted like a queen Keeping eyes on her babies, making sure the streets stayed clean You were love, you were strength, you were everything we’d need Every step I take today comes from the roots you planted in me So we step, step, step for you, Betty Mae With the love you gave, we celebrate today I’m grown now, but your heart still leads my way So I step, step, step for you, sweet Betty Mae Mama, I always knew you’d be right there Through every fight, every storm, every moment of fear I remember getting jumped, you showed out for me You came running like a warrior, like don’t play with my baby You protected my sisters in their times of need You were a shield in danger, moving with lightning speed And when family needed somewhere safe to stay Your door was open, no questions, that’s just your way From the window to the world, you taught us how to stand How to walk with purpose, how to be a better man Everything I am, Mama, everything I became Carries your love, your strength, your name So we step, step, step for you, Betty Mae With the love you gave, we celebrate today I’m grown now, but your heart still leads my way So I step, step, step for you, sweet Betty Mae From Alvin Jr. to his mama, this love will never fade You’re amazing, you’re a blessing, you’re the woman God made Thank you for raising us, thank you for every day We step in your honor, beautiful Betty Mae
