Coattail Hunter

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Rolls up to the cabin in a brand new truck Bragging on the rack like it was all his luck Wearing camo custom-fitted to his name Actin' like he’s royalty in the hunting game But everybody knows how he got that pass Riding coattails, moving fast Left his self-made wife and their little kid behind Already got another mark lined up in his mind [Chorus] He’s a coattail hunter in a camouflage vest Always looking for the trail that pays out best Takes the photo with the trophy, acts real proud Tells a big tall tale to a crowded crowd He’s a snake in the grass, a cold narcissist Cross another name off his hunting list Yeah, he’s onto the next, got his scope dialed in Living off the legacy of better men [Verse 2] Now he’s knocking on a famous outdoor door Wants the pedigree, wants a whole lot more Targeting the family with the TV show Thinks he’s stepping right into the prime-time glow Posing like a father of the year real loud While his child back home gets lost in the cloud He’s a ghost to his blood, but he’s front and center here Chasing clout and coattails year after year [Chorus] He’s a coattail hunter in a camouflage vest Always looking for the trail that pays out best Takes the photo with the trophy, acts real proud Tells a big tall tale to a crowded crowd He’s a snake in the grass, a cold narcissist Cross another name off his hunting list Yeah, he’s onto the next, got his scope dialed in Living off the legacy of better men [Bridge] Self-made women built the ground he treads He just sleeps in the custom-tailored beds Slips like poison through the family tree Trading up for the headline guaranteed [Guitar Solo] [Chorus] He’s a coattail hunter in a camouflage vest Always looking for the trail that pays out best Takes the photo with the trophy, acts real proud Tells a big tall tale to a crowded crowd He’s a snake in the grass, a cold narcissist Cross another name off his hunting list Yeah, he’s onto the next, got his scope dialed in Living off the legacy of better men [Outro] Yeah, a snake in the brush Onto the next headline chase Coattail hunter... out of grace.
