Sisters Together

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Amanda counts the keys beside the kitchen sink Nicole pulls on her old green coat before she can think Troy slams the door and fills the room with blame They trade one look that says, we’re leaving all the same [Pre-Chorus] A bus rolls past the corner store They take the back steps, not the front door [Chorus] Amanda, Nicole, shoulder to shoulder Two brave hearts getting a little bit bolder Past the last house, past the county line You’ve got each other; you’ll be all right No more waiting for his temper to turn There’s a road ahead and a place to learn Amanda, Nicole, keep moving on Sisters together till the fear is gone [Verse 2] They leave a note with just the truth they need to say Call their aunt from the payphone at the edge of town that day She meets them with a blanket and a thermos full of tea Says, “You can stay as long as you need to be free” [Pre-Chorus] The morning comes in pale and gold They make a plan; they take control [Chorus] Amanda, Nicole, shoulder to shoulder Two brave hearts getting a little bit bolder Past the last house, past the county line You’ve got each other; you’ll be all right No more waiting for his temper to turn There’s a road ahead and a place to learn Amanda, Nicole, keep moving on Sisters together till the fear is gone [Bridge] If he calls, they don’t have to answer If he rages, they don’t have to stay There are people who can help them There are safer rooms along the way [Final Chorus] Amanda, Nicole, shoulder to shoulder Every mile makes the next one feel closer Past the last house, into their own lives With trusted hands and the morning beside them No more waiting for his temper to turn There’s a road ahead and a place to learn Amanda, Nicole, keep moving on Sisters together, starting again [Outro] Two coats, one bag, a number to call Two sisters walking, no looking back at all
