This Song is for You

Lyrics

“This Song’s for You” Verse 1 I won’t paint your actions white Just to keep the peace tonight. I won’t call a crooked deal Something honest, something right. I’ve seen folks count their last few dollars While you promised them the moon. If you’re wondering who I’m singing to, This song’s for you. Verse 2 An old man took you at your word, Said a handshake ought to stand. You slid the papers past his questions, Put a pen into his hand. He couldn’t follow all the fine print; You said, “I’ll walk you through.” If his trust looked like easy money, This song’s for you. Chorus I won’t fake it, I won’t dress it up, Won’t call it right when it’s wrong. You don’t get to take somebody’s savings Then tell ’em to move on. There’s a name behind each number, There’s a family hurting too. If you got ahead by keeping others down, This song’s for you. Verse 3 Your client worked through twenty summers For the check you cashed that fall. Now the job sits there unfinished, And you won’t return a call. You keep saying, “That’s just business,” Like that makes the damage small. But somebody’s kitchen table Has your promises stacked tall. Bridge You want forgiveness? Start with what you owe. Pick up that phone, let the truth be told. An apology won’t buy back all those years, But you can start by facing why they’re here. You can change the way this story ends— But I won’t help you hide the way it’s been. Final Chorus I won’t fake it, I won’t dress it up, Won’t call it right when it’s wrong. Somebody’s got to say it plainly, So I put it in a song. For the elderly and the weary, For the folks you thought you’d fool— If you used their trust to fill your pockets, This song’s for you. Outro Once you showed me who you were, I believed the things you do. I walked away with open eyes— And left this song for you.
